Xiaomi has launched it’s first Android One phone in India – the Xiaomi Mi A1. Similar to the specifications of Mi 5X, it also comes with dual rear cameras which is the latest trend in the Indian smartphones. The Xiaomi Mi A1 retains some of it’s original Xiaomi  apps such as the Mi Store apps, Mi Remote, Mi Camera along with Mi Services section, despite introducing Android One.

The Xiaomi Mi A1 will come with Android 7.1.2 initially and will get updated to Android Oreo. Google Assistant and Photos are the other Google services that come with the smartphone, along with Google Play Protect for keeping it secure.

The Xiaomi Mi A1 also sports a 2.5D curved glass, metal unibody design with a fingerprint sensor at the rear. The smartphone has a dual pyrolytic graphite sheet for reducing thermal performance and radiating heat. It also comes with an IR blaster.

Xiaomi Mi A1 price and specifications

The Xiaomi Mi A1 is priced at Rs. 14,999 in India. It will be available on Mi.com, Flipkart and Mi Home stores from 12th September 12pm IST. Customers can also buy the smartphone via Mi Preferred Partner stores as well as offline retail chains on the same day. Mi is also offering up to 300GB of 4G data from Airtel. The smartphone will be available in three colour options – Gold, Rose Gold and Black.


The Xiaomi Mi A1 is s a dual-SIM smartphone (nano) that sports a 5.5-inch full-HD display with Corning Gorilla Glass and 1080×1920 pixels resolution.


The Xiaomi Mi A1 runs Android 7.1.2 Nougat. The smartphone encases a powerful octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 SoC processor coupled with 4GB of RAM. The smartphone comes with a hybrid dual-SIM configuration bearing 64GB of inbuilt storage that can be expanded upto 128GB via a microSD card.


The Xiaomi Mi A1 flaunts two 12MP sensors – one sporting a 1-micron pixel sensor, a telephoto lens and an f/2.6 aperture and the other featuring a 1.25-micron pixel sensor with a wide-angle lens and f/2.2 aperture, for 2x optical zoom. The Portrait Mode is capable of delivering depth of field effects for achieving that Bokeh effect. The smartphone has a 5MP shooter at the front which provides real-time beautification.


Connectivity options in the Xiaomi Mi A1 include 4G VoLTE, GPS/ A-GPS, dual-band Wi-Fi 802.11ac, 3.5mm headphone jack and a Type-C USB port.

Sensors on board of the smartphone include an ambient light sensor, accelerometer, magnetometer, gyroscope, proximity sensor and infrared.


The Xiaomi Mi A1 comes with a 3080mAh battery, weighing 168 grams having dimensions 155.4×75.8×7.3mm.


Xiaomi is also touting the inclusion of a 10V smart power amplifier along with support for headphones with high impedance.

Summing it up, the Android One initiative is the biggest highlight of the smartphone. The Xiaomi Mi A1 is going to offer a pure Android experience along with a carefully curated set of preinstalled apps. The smartphone will have Google Photos as it’s default gallery and will be optimised for Google Assistant.

The Xiaomi Mi A1 will be secured with built-in malware protection along with regular security updates from Google Play Protect. The smartphone will also receive Android Oreo update as promised by Google before the end of the year.
