Enjoy group video calling on Skype Lite with guest users : Microsoft
Now the Skype Lite app can be used for making group video calls as Microsoft continues to enhance it’s video calling and messaging service in India, where the major population uses outdated handsets and has to depend on slow network connection, the company said.
Now join a group video call without Skype account
But there’s more to it. Microsoft has made it easier for everyone to attend a video call. Now anybody can join a group video call including those who doesn’t have a Skype account. Skype Lite users can invite people who have not yet registered on Skype and they would easily be able to join video calls on their phones as well as on laptops and desktops.
Download Skype Lite app using invitation link
Users can download the Skype Lite app on their phone or PC from the invitation link which can be shared via social media apps like WhatsApp. The validity of the invitation link is 24 hours. It prompts the users for installing the Skype Web extension on their Web browser for facilitating video calls. However, no extension or account is necessary if the guest user wishes to have a text conversation.
The group video calling feature has been added keeping in mind the festival of lights – Diwali, when people usually make more calls for connecting with their family and friends for sharing pleasantries. Facebook-owned WhatsApp hasn’t yet introduced group video calling feature, which has more than 200 million users in India.
Exclusively available for Android users
The Skype Lite was announced by Microsoft chief executive officer Satya Nadella in India earlier this year. Exclusively available for Android users, the app has been designed so that it goes well even with slow networks and outdated handsets.
Aadhaar support for authentication purpose
The company has been making efforts aggressively for making the Skype Lite app more relevant in India. Also, Aadhaar support has been added by Microsoft earlier this year so that users on a video call can authenticate one another, along with support for various Indian languages. The company also added a machine learning-powered functionality – “SMS Insights” in August, for pulling relevant information by itself and making sense of spams. Users have downloaded the app between one million to five million times since it’s launch, according to Skype Lite’s Google Play listing.
