The Indian Railways is all set to launch a new mobile app through which users can easily book flight tickets apart from booking train tickets. Now users can also book a retiring room, porter or order food alongside booking train tickets. The Indian Railways has decided to take this step in an effort to provide an integrated Railways app to the people. Going by the reports, it is expected to launch this week.

The app is expected to ease up the search for essential things that passengers need while travelling, said a senior Railway Ministry official. Now it will become lot easier to find what passengers are looking for with the help of this app. Although there are a number of apps of the Indian Railways already available that are offering specific services but, according to the official, most of those apps are dedicated to a particular service. Hence an app was required which would serve multiple needs under a single interface. This new app offers multiple services such as booking cabs, hotels and even flight tickets, along with train-related services in a single window.

During the Railway Budget 2016-17, the Integrated Railway Mobile App project was launched for the first time. The Railways’ software arm, CRIS, is in charge of it’s development. The cost is estimated at Rs. 7 crores.

“Presently we have different digital solutions for ticketing, grievance redressal and other issues. We intend to integrate all such facilities into two mobile apps, one dealing with all ticketing issues and the other for receipt and redressal of complaints and suggestions related to all our services,” Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu had mentioned in his budget speech.

The Indian Railways will also be launching RailCloud on Wednesday, developed by PSU RailTel. It is a virtual server which comes with an inbuilt security system that can provide faster connectivity and that too at lower cost. The estimated cost is approximately Rs. 53 crores.
