India ka Smartphone : JioPhone
The long-rumoured 4G feature phone by Reliance Jio has been unveiled by Mukesh Ambani at the Reliance AGM. The handset has been launched at an “effective price” of Rs. 0 (though there will be an upfront deposit of Rs. 1,500). Introduced as “India ka Smartphone”, the JioPhone is going to be important for Reliance in covering the estimated 50 crore feature phone users in India who are not able to afford costly 4G smartphones.
The first feature phone with VoLTE support
Although launched in September last year, Reliance Jio has been limited to smartphone users only, being a dedicated 4G network. A phone needs to have VoLTE support in order to make calls, which is usually not supported by basic phones. The introduction of the JioPhone is supposed to bring a revolution, which supports 4G VoLTE. Users can also access apps like JioTV, JioMusic and JioCinema with the JioPhone.
Release date and booking details
The JioPhone phone is going to be available for testing in beta from 15th August. Pre-booking will start from 24th August through the MyJio app. Users can also pre-book their JioPhone from Jio offline stores. Those who pre-book the phone can purchase the phone on a first come first serve basis from September. The JioPhone is going to come with various data packs.
Plans & offers
The plan of Rs. 153 per month comes with unlimited data usage (upto 500MB high-speed data FUP per day), free voice and SMS along with Jio apps. Users can also opt for Rs. 309 per month plan to get all these facilities, plus the feature of mirroring the screen of your phone on a TV, via a cable which can also be plugged into CRT TVs. The best part is you can return the phone after three years for a full refund on your deposit. Apart from this, Reliance is also offering two sachet packs – Rs. 24 for two days and Rs. 54 for one week for those who are not willing to pay Rs. 153 as an advance payment.
